How Low Can a Tuner Go?

StroboPro now reaches 13.75 Hz

StroboPro can now track pitches down to 13.75 Hz. I don’t know why you would want to go that low, but I saw another paid iLOK/DRM tuner claiming 14Hz so I decided… why not?

Why low frequencies are difficult to tune

The go-to for many apps is to use an FFT, and then use that to emulate a strobe output based on the output of the FFT. StroboPro, instead, tracks each harmonic’s phase continuously, which is why it can actually accurately track down to 13.75 Hz.

Who needs a 13.75 Hz tuner?

Honestly, I don’t know. Let me know if you do.

Try a low-frequency test yourself

Feel free to test your favourite app with the test program I used at https://applicaudia.se/fakepiano/

Try the tuner at strobopro.se, or on iOS or Android or with your DAW, then read the companion post about laboratory precision and 0.01-cent display resolution.

Conclusion

Tracking 13.75 Hz is a specialised capability, and it shows off the capability of the app, but it is probably useless; let me know if you disagree.
