A closer look at 0.01-cent precision
StroboPro now includes Brag Mode (or “Precision Readout” in advanced settings), a test display that can show current pitch at a ridiculous 0.01-cent resolution. It’s purpose? To prove the claim of <0.1 cent resolution is true.
It’s pretty ridiculous; in reality, acoustic instruments can’t be measured to 0.01 cents, the instrument itself is too imperfect. What it does show is StroboPro’s proprietary sub-0.1 cents harmonics-tracking algorithms at work – the app tracks each partial independently, instead of using an FFT and smearing all of the harmonics together.
Why a controlled signal?
A real string has a pitch changes as you pluck it. This controlled tone generator test removes much of that uncertainty. The test source, fakepiano, provides the means to tweak the signal and check that StroboPro is as accurate as it claims. Feel free to try your favourite tuner app or hardware with the same tests!
Conclusion
Brag (Precision Readout) Mode is for our specs page. It proves without a doubt our claim of < 0.1-cent visibility, on a mobile/web app!
For everyday tuning, the more useful promise is simpler: a readable multi-harmonic strobe display with <0.1 cent resolution.
Try the tuner at strobopro.se, or on iOS or Android or with your DAW.
